Mission Statement

The mission of the FSU Project Management Center is to promote the study and practice of project management as a discipline. The Center focuses on research, scholarship, and professional development activities that are of immediate interest and value to practicing project managers.

Mission Overview

Scholars from the Project Management Center will consider closely the needs of practicing project managers and involve them from time to time in their research and scholarship. This collaborative synergy between scholars and project managers will characterize the central mission of the FSU Project Management Center. The long-term goal of the Center will be to establish a Center of Excellence for the study and practice of project management serving Florida State University, the Southeast, and the United States.

Goals of the Center
The Project Management Center currently manages our academic Graduate Certificate program in Project Management described on several of the following and associated pages. 

The faculty affiliated with the Center are actively engaged in instructing courses, developing workshops, and/or conducting research that achieve the goals of the Center.

2008 Graduate Project Management Certificates Awarded

Graduate project management certificates were awarded to three students at the end of of the 2008 Spring semester:

Congratulations to all certificate awardees! At this juncture, the number of certificates awarded to students in 2008 is 16. Fall semester awardees are expected as well. Including 2007, the first year the certificate was offered, the total number of certificates awarded to students so far is 45.

 

 

Center News

 

PM Class Plans
Two PM one-day classes are coming up in the March timeframe. The first class on 3/19/09 is well suited for persons transitioning into PM or non-certified PM's. Project Management Fundamentals presents the key PM information needed for the work environment and the PMP certification exam. The second class on 3/26/09 is well suited for experienced practicing PM's. Project Time Management presents the PMI's key Project Time Management Knowledge Area content and gives ample guidance for hands-on mastery of skills in MS Project. Each class earns 8 Professional Development Units (PDUs) Classes take place at the FSU Training Center near the FSU stadium.


PMI's R.E.P. Status Earned
The Center has been approved by the PMI as a Registered Educational Provider (R.E.P.) An R.E.P. is an organization approved by PMI to issue PDUs for its training courses. The Center's first approved course is Introduction to Project Management (COM5450).

 

PMC Partners to Offer PM Professional Presentations Throughout Florida
The FSU Project Management Center (PMC) has partnered with the FSU Reuben Askew Institute of Management and the FSU Florida Institute of Government to develop and present Project Management (PM) presentations to Florida state/local government professionals in Altamont Springs, Sarasota, and St. Augustine. These presentations further the Center's mission to "promote the study and practice of project management as a discipline."
